In May 2007 the Government marked its exit from Maruti Udyog, the country's largest car manufacturer, with the sale of its 10.27 per cent stake for Rs 2,360 crore to a clutch of financial institutions led by the Life Insurance Corporation.
With this, the Governments twenty-three-year association with its Japanese partner Suzuki Motor Corporation came to an end.
